Abu Dhabi residents, it’s time to let your pride shine through – our city has been named one of the top five global cities to work in.
The UAE capital beat the likes of Berlin, Singapore and Barcelona to the top five according to the prestigious Boston Consulting Group.
London topped the list for another year (it has retained the top spot since 2014), but the Middle East is gaining ground, with both Dubai (number three) and Abu Dhabi making the top five. While the neighbouring emirate retained the third spot, Abu Dhabi jumped one position compared to last year’s report.
The ranking was released as part of BCG’s Dream Destinations and Mobility Trends report, a study of 150,000 people in 188 countries who were asked where they would move for work and why.

Toronto, Los Angeles and Paris also gained a spot in the top 20, as well as Melbourne, Austin and Madrid.
The report also listed the reasons professionals are looking to move, with “financial and economic reasons”, “career progression” and “better overall quality of life” topping the list.
When it comes to picking a country, having English as the official working language came out as one of the most important considerations, followed by top-tier salary packages, a culture of acceptance and belonging and a smooth relocation process.
It’s been an eventful few months for Abu Dhabi, with the capital recently receiving several accolades. Last year it was named the 25th best city in the world according to WorldsBestCities.com and the safest city in the world in January 2024. Most recently it was awarded the 10th spot on the Smart City Index 2024, compiled by Switzerland’s International Institute for Management Development (IMD).
