Abu Dhabi Fights Illegal Villa Rentals and Misuse of Housing Benefits

Abu Dhabi has ramped up its efforts to address violations of government housing regulations, including the unauthorized rental of villas and the establishment of unlicensed businesses within these properties. Announced on Tuesday, the crackdown will also target abandoned homes across the emirate.

The Abu Dhabi Housing Authority (ADHA) and the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) are leading a comprehensive field survey aimed at identifying and correcting these breaches. Offenders will be granted a grace period of one month to resolve their violations before legal action is pursued. Majid Abdullah Al Muhairi, Acting Executive Director of the Housing Benefits Allocation Sector, emphasized the importance of compliance with all regulations, urging recipients of government housing benefits to maintain orderly and clean neighborhoods.

He stressed that government housing must be used strictly for its intended residential purposes, prohibiting any subleasing or commercial activities within these properties. Residents are encouraged to report any irregularities in their communities through the Tamm app’s “photograph and report” feature.

In addition to enforcing the rules, ADHA will launch awareness campaigns to educate homeowners about available financial options, such as maintenance loans or loans for demolition and reconstruction. Fahad Al Shehhi, Acting Director of the General Appearance Department at DMT, highlighted that this collaboration aims to support the government’s vision of creating sustainable residential communities that improve the quality of life across Abu Dhabi.
